Easy Composting

Step 1

Set Up Your Kit

First things first, it’s time to assemble your kit! Simply unpack the box, set the wooden stand into place, and set the cardboard box on top.

Step 2

Stir Things Up

Next, hydrate the coconut coir  separately in a bucket. Then, add the coir and biochar substrate to the Ceres Simple box and give things a stir with the provided garden spade.

Step 3

Add Food Waste

Dig a hole in the center of the substrate, add your food scraps, and cover. Each time you add food scraps, you’ll want to add a small amount of water to help things break down.

Step 4

Get Composting

That’s it! Continue adding food waste and stir to keep things aerated. Within a number of months, you’ll have nutrient-rich compost or “black gold.”

Fruit & Vegetable Scraps

Fruit and veggie scraps, peels, and stems are ideal additions to your Ceres Simple box. These nutrient-rich materials break down easily and help to create a balanced compost mix.

Natural Food Waste

Food waste including coffee grounds, tea bags, cooked rice, pasta, oats , stale bread, tortilla scraps, beans, corn cobs, and egg shells add essential nutrients for healthy compost.

Brown & Green Materials

Grass clippings, plant trimmings, and brown materials such as paper, paper towels, and napkins all help to balance moisture and carbon levels for effective decomposition.

Dairy, Meat & Fish Scraps

Don’t add dairy products, meat, or fish scraps as these can create odors and upset the balance of your compost.

Highly-Processed Foods

Avoid foods such as chocolate, candy, chips, or junk food as these items can disrupt the composting process.

Pet Waste

Do not add any pet waste to Ceres Simple as it can contain harmful pathogens.

Inorganic Materials

Manmade materials such as metal or plastic will not breakdown in compost and should be avoided.
